How to Care For Your Car's Body

Purchasing a new car with today's prices is a major investment. You want to keep your car looking the best it can and for as long as it can. There are some simple things that you can do to help keep your car looking like it just came off the showroom floor.

One thing you can do regularly is to wash your car. You should try to wash it at least twice a month if not more. If you don't wash your car things like bugs, bird droppings and dust can damage the paint and leave permanent stains. This is because when a car is clean all the moisture will dry off quickly but when it's dirty the moisture in the air accumulates in the dirty areas which will cause corrosion.

At least once a month you should use a pressure washer on your vehicle. This is because it removes the dirt from hard to reach areas. You have to be cautious though; do not hold the pressure washer jet too close to the car because it can peel off loose paint. You should wash off all places where dirt and salt can accumulate such as; behind moldings, inside the wheel arches and under the bumpers.

You should also wax your car regularly. By waxing your car it gives it a shiny look and also helps shield the paint from the harsh environment. Waxing your car will protect it from fading. It usually only takes about thirty minutes to wax the whole car. High quality car wax will stay on the car for at least three to four months.

Car wax will give your car a natural shine and when applied it forms a thin transparent layer over the car paint. This layer covers minor scratches and other damages making them less visible. The wax will also seal the paint preventing water from contacting exposed metal in deep scratches and help slow down the corrosion process.

To wax your car you will need a good quality wax, a small soft sponge and a clean soft towel. First, you must make sure that your car is very clean and dry. You should try to make sure that you are parked in the shade; car wax usually works better when the car surface is cool to the touch. You will want to do one section at a time. Cover the section using the sponge with a thin layer of wax. In a minute or two the wax will become hazy and then you take the clean soft towel and buff it until it shines. Then you repeat this process on all other sections of the vehicle until you have covered the whole surface.

Another thing to consider is that if you live in an area that has high humidity or where salt is used in the winter months; you should consider undercoating and rust proofing your car. By having a car undercoated and rust proofed you can protect the important component such as the brakes from corrosion.

You can add years to your car just by regularly washing and waxing the exterior. This will make sure that your car keeps its shiny new appearance and value for years to come.
